Baramulla, Feb 01 (KNO): In the aftermath of road accident in Boniyar village that claimed the lives of 10 people, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Baramulla Muazzam Ali on Thursday blacklisted 13 vehicles, seven RCs and suspended 20 driving licenses in Baramula. An official from the transport department told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that an enforcement drive led by ARTO Muazzam Ali was conducted in Baramulla district where at least 20 DLs were suspended for violating the norms of the department. "The intensified drive aims to bring discipline on the roads and prevent further accidents. People have been resorting to traffic violations, which are unacceptable. These drives should serve as an eye-opener to refrain from violations," the official said. The ARTO counselled the violators, warned them of strict action and urged them to follow the rules and regulations set by the Motor Vehicle Act. The official added that the drive against violators is a proactive step towards making our roads safer for everyone. “Road safety is a collective responsibility. We will be tough against traffic violators. There is no space for violations. People must know their duties and traffic norms and road safety must be observed in letter and spirit,” Ali said. He urged drivers to desist from overloading, saying it is an offense with severe consequences. "Overloading isn't just against the rules, but a threat to safety" he said. A day ago, an overloaded vehicle carrying 15 passengers fell into deep gorge at Boniyar resulting in killing of 10 people and injuries to five others—(KNO)
